In one of the most devastating and coordinated attacks since the beginning of Russia’s Special Military Operation, Russia unleashed a massive wave of missile and drone strikes across Ukraine late Sunday night, targeting critical energy infrastructure and command nodes. The strikes, confirmed live during the Hal Turner Radio Show at 9:00 PM EST, were described as the largest and most destructive assault to date, plunging large portions of the country into darkness.
OVERVIEW OF THE ATTACK
According to battlefield tracking and open-source geolocation data, Russian forces launched more than 50 missiles and dozens of drones from land, air, and sea-based platforms in a synchronized barrage that overwhelmed Ukraine’s air defenses.
Interception rates were reportedly very low, as many of the weapons were ballistic and hypersonic, moving at speeds beyond the capability of Ukraine’s remaining interceptor systems.
The attack combined Iskander-M ballistic missiles, Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, Iskander-K cruise missiles, Kalibr ship-launched cruise missiles, and waves of Geran-2 suicide drones. Military analysts have characterized the event as a strategic energy knockout designed to cripple Ukraine’s winter power generation capacity.

Russia’s objective appeared clear: eliminate Ukraine’s remaining thermal and gas-based energy infrastructure. According to regional reports, all of Ukraine’s state thermal power plants are now offline following direct hits.

The result was nationwide blackouts, particularly in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Poltava, and Chernihiv regions. Satellite imagery overnight showed large swaths of eastern and central Ukraine without visible grid illumination.
DRONE STRIKES AND SECONDARY TARGETS
Complementing the missile assault, waves of Geran-2 (Shahed-type) drones struck power substations, transformer yards, and storage depots in multiple oblasts, including:
Kyiv, Boryspil, Kremenchuk, Poltava, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Donetsk.
The coordinated use of drones and missiles suggests an effort to map and overload Ukraine’s air defense radar coverage, depleting interceptors ahead of ballistic launches.
FOLLOW-ON ARTILLERY AND MLRS FIRE
Russian multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) conducted additional strikes on energy and logistical facilities near Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, further crippling Ukraine’s southern grid capacity and regional transport networks.
STRATEGIC ANALYSIS
This operation marks a significant escalation in Russia’s winter campaign—a shift from tactical battlefield engagements toward strategic infrastructure warfare. By dismantling the country’s power generation system, Moscow appears intent on forcing a logistical and humanitarian collapse before the onset of deep winter.
Western analysts are drawing parallels to the 1943–44 blackout offensives, where energy denial was used to fracture civilian morale. Ukrainian authorities have acknowledged “widespread and severe power disruptions,” and emergency services are struggling to maintain water and heating supplies.
WHAT COMES NEXT
If confirmed, the full destruction of Ukraine’s thermal power plants could plunge millions into energy insecurity, strain NATO’s resupply efforts, and trigger new waves of refugee movement toward Europe. The attack may also serve as retaliation for recent Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil depots in Belgorod and Crimea.

THE U.S. IS ON THE VERGE OF ONE OF THE GREATEST STRATEGIC MISTAKES IN MODERN HISTORY

In recent decades, the U.S. has been involved in a string of disastrous regime change wars. Instead of learning our lesson, it appears that we are on the verge of starting another regime change war. Without a doubt, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is a really bad guy, and his nation produces vast quantities of illegal drugs that end up on the streets of major U.S. cities. But a regime change war in Venezuela would require an enormous commitment of military resources.
It would be a huge strategic mistake to commit so much of our military firepower in South America at a time when fighting between Israel and Iran could break out again at any moment, when Russian forces are about to make a major breakthrough in Ukraine, and when the Chinese could make a move on Taiwan if they sense an opportunity to do so. In addition, a regime change war would have very serious implications for our relations with other nations. The Europeans are telling us not to do this, many of our South American allies are telling us not to do this, and the Venezuelans have already reached out to Russia and China for help. If we ignore everyone else and go barreling into Venezuela anyway, the rest of the planet will be very displeased with us.
There is a world of difference between bombing a few drug boats and going to war with a nation that has hundreds of thousands of soldiers and that has a total population of more than 28 million people.
On Tuesday, the U.S. military destroyed yet another drug-trafficking boat, and everyone that was aboard was killed…
The U.S. military conducted another strike on an alleged drug-trafficking boat on Tuesday, a Pentagon official confirmed to CBS News. The attack targeted a vessel in the Caribbean Sea and killed four people on board.
Since September, U.S. forces have destroyed at least 21 vessels in 20 strikes in international waters, killing at least 80 people. The Trump administration says the operations — the details of which remain sparse — are part of an anti-drug offensive.
There are some very significant questions that need to be answered about the legality of these attacks.
But if this was as far as we went, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.
Unfortunately, it is being reported that President Trump has been presented “with updated options for potential operations in Venezuela”, and we are being warned that military strikes could begin “within days”…
Donald Trump is planning strikes on Venezuela within days and has been presented with a suite of military options by his top generals, according to a report.
The president was briefed by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, sources told CBS News.
The commander in chief has not yet made a final decision but action could come as soon as this week, the sources said.
Since a final decision has not been made yet, that means that President Trump could still potentially be swayed one way or the other.
So everyone needs to be making a tremendous amount of noise about this, because the clock is ticking.
An enormous U.S. force has been deployed to the region, and earlier this week that force was joined by the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group…
Earlier this week, the USS Gerald Ford carrier strike group entered U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility. Southern Command is the primary combatant unit for operations in the Caribbean and South America.
The Ford joins a flotilla of destroyers, war planes and special operations assets that are already in the region.
Those ships are not just going to sit there indefinitely.
Either they are going to take action soon or they are going to go home.
Let us hope that it is the latter.
Venezuela is so concerned about a potential U.S. attack that they have deployed nearly 200,000 soldiers…
Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López said Tuesday in a statement that Venezuela is preparing to set a maximum level of alert amid rising tensions with the U.S.
The objective is to place “the entire country’s military arsenal on full operational readiness,” Padrino López said. The preparations include “massive deployment of ground, aerial, naval, riverine and missile forces” with the participation of all security forces and militia.
Padrino said on national television that Venezuela’s leader, Nicolás Maduro, ordered a massive deployment of soldiers — “almost 200,000,” he said — as part of the special operation.
Maduro is not stupid.
He knows that Trump has been after him for a very long time, and Trump’s comments during a recent 60 Minutes interview gave him even more reason for alarm…
Many people both inside Venezuela, including President Nicolas Maduro himself, and observers outside the country believe the increased U.S. military pressure is aimed at forcing Maduro out of office.
When asked in a recent interview with “60 Minutes” if Maduro’s “days were numbered,” Mr. Trump responded, “I would say yeah. I think so, yeah.”
Would the world be a better place without Nicolas Maduro?
Yes.
But as we have seen in Afghanistan and Iraq, a regime change war can drag on for years.
And in this case, it could bring us even closer to war with Russia…
Russia has vowed to stand “ready” to assist Venezuela as Donald Trump ramps up the US military footprint near the South American country in what Washington has characterized as a counter-narcotics operation.
Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov stated the Kremlin is “ready to fully act within the framework of the obligations that were mutually stipulated in this agreement with our Venezuelan friends”, following the nations’ signing of a strategic partnership in May.
I don’t like the sound of that at all.
To what extent is Russia ready to “assist” Venezuela?
Would they just provide arms to the Venezuelans, or would they be willing to go even farther than that?
Instead of going to war with Venezuela, we should really be focusing on ending the war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainians are being pushed out of the absolutely critical fortress city of Pokrovsk, and we are being told that the Russians are now starting to make significant progress in the Zaporizhzhia region as well…
As Ukrainian forces struggle to hold onto the embattled eastern city of Pokrovsk, they are facing increasing pressure about 55 miles to the southwest in the Zaporizhzhia region. The Ukrainian Southern Command on Wednesday said its forces pulled out of the small hamlet of Rivnopillia, the latest in a string of withdrawals in the area since Tuesday. The retreat puts Russian troops a little more than 50 miles east of Zaporizhia, one of Ukraine’s biggest cities with a population of more than 700,000.
The two fronts, in adjacent regions, are related, given Russia’s overwhelming advantage in troop strength and Ukraine’s more limited ability to generate forces to defend both areas. As a result, there are serious questions about how much longer Ukraine can hold onto Pokrovsk and the strategic impact of its potential fall.
Ukraine’s defenses are crumbling, and the Ukrainians understand very clearly that the only way that they can win the war is to drag NATO into it.
On the other side of the globe, the Venezuelans are asking the Russians and the Chinese for help in defending against a potential U.S. invasion.
With each passing day, we are getting closer to the kinetic phase of World War III.
For a long time I have been hoping that cooler heads would prevail, but that is simply not happening.
Now we are potentially just days away from initiating a major war with Venezuela, and that would not be a good thing for any of us.
IS MEXICO ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSE? A MASSIVE UPRISING ERUPTS AS PROTESTERS THAT HAVE LOST ALL FAITH IN THE GOVERNMENT STORM THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE

The chaos that has erupted in Mexico City is shocking the entire globe. Vast hordes of angry protesters that are fed up with the corruption of the Mexican government surrounded the presidential palace on Saturday. Law enforcement authorities knew that the protesters would be coming, and so they set up an enormous security wall around the presidential palace, but the protesters tore it down anyway. In all my years, I have never seen anything quite like this in Mexico. Could it be possible that our southern neighbor is on the verge of collapse?
At this stage, nobody can deny that Mexico is a failed narco-state. The drug cartels currently control about a third of all Mexican territory, and it has been estimated that they bring in approximately 600 billion pesos from drug trafficking each year.
Most of the drugs that those cartels produce end up on the streets of major U.S. cities, but Claudia Sheinbaum refuses to take action against the cartels, and she won’t allow the Trump administration to take action against them either.
The protest in Mexico City on Saturday was an anti-cartel protest. Many Mexicans are deeply frustrated with what has happened to their nation, and they are blaming Claudia Sheinbaum’s government…
Rioters stormed the barricades outside the presidential palace in Mexico City as an anti-cartel protest descended into chaos.
Mobs of frustrated, mostly Gen Z Mexican protestors traded blows with cops and screamed slogans about how corruption and cartel killings have spiraled out of control in their country.
Thousands of people filled the streets of the nation’s capital and marched to the palace, which is the official residence of President Claudia Sheinbaum, the progressive politician who took office last October.
A lot of people got hurt during the violence that erupted.
In fact, it is being reported that 100 police officers were injured…
At least 120 people – 100 of them police officers – have been injured in clashes during anti-government protests in Mexico City, police said.
Earlier this month, one of the most outspoken anti-cartel politicians in Mexico was assassinated.
His name was Carlos Manzo, and many in the crowd in Mexico City were heard chanting his name.
The protesters simply want their country back, but that is not going to happen.
A couple of weeks ago, Sheinbaum completely ruled out a new “war on drugs”…
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum ruled out a new “war on drugs” as a response to the assassination of a regional mayor who was shot at a Day of the Dead celebration, a brazen killing that has sparked national outrage.
“Returning to the war against el narco is not an option,” Sheinbaum told reporters Monday, referring to the bloody anti-crime offensive launched almost two decades ago. “Mexico already did that, and the violence got worse.”
The president spoke as the nation was reeling from the killing Saturday of Carlos Manzo, mayor of Uruapan in the west-central state of Michoacán, which has become an organized-crime battleground.
Sheinbaum belongs to a far left political party called Morena.
In many ways, it is very similar ideologically to the Democratic Socialists of America.
During the election that resulted in her coming to power, 37 other candidates for office were assassinated by the cartels…
Claudia Sheinbaum was elected as Mexico’s first female president Sunday following the deadliest election campaign in the country’s modern history.
More than three dozen candidates were assassinated, including a local government candidate in central Puebla state who was killed on Friday, increasing the total number of those killed to 37 ahead of Sunday’s vote, according to data from security consultancy Integralia obtained by Reuters.
As long as she continues to do what they want, Sheinbaum isn’t going to be touched by the cartels.
They were absolutely thrilled when she won, and they continue to be thrilled with her.
It would be difficult to overstate the power that the cartels have accumulated. In recent decades they have become increasingly sophisticated and increasingly militarized…
As Mexico’s two-decade war against drug cartels has worn on, cartel tactics have evolved. The groups have begun to focus not just on moving drugs to the United States but also on controlling territory inside Mexico, which has led to intensified inter-cartel battles and the groups’ increased militarization. Cartels now operate more like insurgent groups than purely criminal organizations, employing tactics such as improvised explosive devices (IEDs), drones, and the recruitment of foreign mercenaries, specifically from Colombia. As of May 2024, cartels controlled about one-third of Mexico’s territory.
If one cartel ran the whole show, there would be a lot less violence.
Unfortunately for the Mexican people, there are numerous cartel wars that are currently raging in various parts of the country…
- The Sinaloa Cartel Civil War: Two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, the Mayito Flacos and Los Chapitos, are currently battling for control of the state of Sinaloa. Forces under leader Ismael “Mayito Flaco” Zambada currently control southern Sinaloa, while Los Chapitos are centered around the state capital of Culiacán. Los Chapitos recently announced an alliance with their historical rival, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), and CJNG fighters have launched offensives along the border of Sinaloa and Durango against Mayito Flaco-associated factions.
- The Gulf Cartel Civil War: Multiple factions of the Gulf Cartel are fighting for control of Tamaulipas, with the two main groups being the Metros, out of Reynosa and Grupo Escorpión out of Matamoros. The factions currently maintain a tenuous ceasefire after years of fighting.
- Mayito Flaco and CJNG Conflict: Mayito Flaco and CJNG are currently engaged in multiple territorial battles spanning Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Durango, Zacatecas, and Chiapas.
- CJNG Michoacán Offensive: CJNG is currently on the offensive in Michoacán, fighting against two cartels, the United Cartels and La Familia Michoacana.
We are being told that President Trump is considering going to war with Venezuela in order to reduce the flow of drugs into the United States.
But the truth is that far, far more drugs are coming into the United States from Mexico…
The switch to Venezuela was a surprise to those of us studying drug trafficking: Fentanyl from Mexico is the leading cause for overdose deaths in the U.S. Drugs trafficked through and from Venezuela are not synthetic opioids, but cocaine shipped to West Africa and Europe, with very little making its way to the U.S. Fentanyl, not cocaine, is the leading contributor to U.S. overdose deaths.
A couple of weeks ago, NBC News was reporting that U.S. officials had actually been planning an operation that would “send American troops and intelligence officers into Mexico to target drug cartels”…
The Trump administration has begun detailed planning for a new mission to send American troops and intelligence officers into Mexico to target drug cartels, according to two U.S. officials and two former senior U.S. officials familiar with the effort.
The early stages of training for the potential mission, which would include ground operations inside Mexico, has already begun, the two current U.S. officials said. But a deployment to Mexico is not imminent, the two U.S. officials and one of the former U.S. officials said. Discussions about the scope of the mission are ongoing, and a final decision has not been made, the two current U.S. officials said.
In order to take action inside Mexican territory, we would need the permission of the Mexican government.
And every time this has come up, Sheinbaum has completely rejected the possibility of any U.S. military activity on Mexican soil…
Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has flatly denied reports that the United States is planning to send troops into Mexico to confront the country’s powerful cartels, noting that she had repeatedly rejected such offers from Donald Trump.
“It’s not going to happen,” Sheinbaum said during her daily morning news conference on Tuesday. “We do not agree with any process of interference or interventionism.”
Sheinbaum’s comments come after a report from NBC News citing current and former US officials that the Trump administration has started planning a mission to send US troops and intelligence officers into Mexico.
We could go in without Sheinbaum’s permission, but that would be an act of war.
If we cross that red line, that would push Mexico into the arms of Russia and China.
But will President Trump really be okay with sitting back and watching Mexican drug cartels continue to flood our streets with illegal drugs for the next three years?
That seems unlikely.
I think that at some point President Trump will lose patience and take military action against the cartels, and at that point things will get really wild.

MULTIPLE EARTHQUAKE SWARMS SHAKE THE PACIFIC RING OF FIRE! ARE THE WEST COAST OF THE U.S. AND MT. FUJI AT RISK?

Why is the Pacific Ring of Fire suddenly shaking so much? We are being told that the earthquake swarm that is rattling the San Francisco Bay Area could go on “for days”, and Japan has been hammered by a whopping 847 earthquakes within the past 24 hours. Is all of this seismic activity building up to something bigger? Are the west coast and Mt. Fuji potentially at risk?
Just hours ago, dozens of large earthquakes started pounding Japan.
The most significant was a magnitude 6.8 earthquake…
At least 25 earthquakes have struck off the coast of Japan in the last 24 hours, with some reaching strengths over 6.0 in magnitude.
The largest in the series was recorded as a 6.8 magnitude and prompted a tsunami warning that lasted several hours before being canceled, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quakes ranged in strength from a 4.5 magnitude, with many reaching magnitudes over 5.0, that could cause damage and possible loss of life.
But that is just part of the story.
These bigger earthquakes were part of a giant earthquake swarm that included hundreds and hundreds of smaller earthquakes.
Volcano Discovery is reporting that Japan has been hit by a total of 847 earthquakes just within the past 24 hours…
- 2 quakes above magnitude 6
- 13 quakes between magnitude 5 and 6
- 40 quakes between magnitude 4 and 5
- 108 quakes between magnitude 3 and 4
- 253 quakes between magnitude 2 and 3
- 431 quakes below magnitude 2 that people normally don’t feel.
That is not normal.
Not even close.
When there are lots and lots of small earthquakes, it makes it much more likely that a really big earthquake will strike.
In fact, geophysicist Stefan Burns is warning that the odds of Japan being hit by a magnitude 8 earthquake or greater just went way up…
We all saw what a colossal tsunami did to Japan back in 2011.
But to me, the much greater potential threat is Mt. Fuji.
The government of Japan recently put out an AI video which simulated what a major eruption of Mt. Fuji might look like…
A viral video created with artificial intelligence (AI) shows the catastrophic impact that a volcanic eruption at Mount Fuji could have on Tokyo, Japan, and its 37 million inhabitants. Fortunately, the informational video is not timed to any increased risk of an eruption — it’s merely a public service announcement tied to Japan’s Volcanic Disaster Preparedness Day 2025.
The AI-generated video, released Aug. 22 by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, warns of the speed with which volcanic ash could travel from the volcano to Japan’s capital city before raining down on its roads, buildings, railways and other infrastructure. Clouds of debris from Mount Fuji could reach Tokyo in just one to two hours, subtitles beneath the video read, paralyzing the city’s transport networks, cutting power supplies and affecting the respiratory health of millions of people.
“The moment may arrive without any warning,” the subtitles, translating the video’s narration from Japanese to English, say. “If Mt. Fuji erupted, volcanic ash may fall on Tokyo and impact us in a wide variety of ways.”
Unfortunately, I believe that a worst case scenario would be so much worse than that.
I am convinced that if there is a full-blown eruption of Mt. Fuji, millions of Tokyo residents could die.
The good news is that there are not any major warning signs from Mt. Fuji yet.
But if it starts to huff and puff, I will certainly be writing about it.
On the other side of the Pacific Ring of Fire, an earthquake swarm suddenly began shaking northern California on Sunday morning…
An earthquake swarm hit the San Francisco Bay Area on Sunday morning.
The cluster of up to eight quakes, ranging from 2.5 to 3.8 on the Richter scale, first occurred from 9:38am to 9:41am around southeast of San Ramon.
The last quake hit at 10:42am, less than a mile west of San Ramon.
We are being told that this particular earthquake swarm could keep going “for hours or even days”…
Six earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or higher struck the East Bay on Sunday morning, part of a swarm of dozens of small earthquakes that could go on for hours or even days, according to seismology experts.
The largest so far was a 3.8 magnitude quake that struck around San Ramon at 9:38 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Residents of Danville, Dublin, Emeryville and San Ramon reported feeling jolts and a short rattle.

At this moment, a silent threat is lurking off the west coast, threatening hundreds of miles of coastal territory in the Pacific Northwest with sudden destruction.
Scientists have warned us over and over again that the Cascadia Subduction Zone has the potential to produce a “megaquake” that will instantly turn life upside down for millions of people living along the coast in Oregon, Washington and northern California.
Such an earthquake has the potential to create tsunami waves that are up to 100 feet tall and that travel at speeds of up to 500 miles an hour.
In a subduction zone, one of the Earth’s tectonic plates is literally sliding over another. When energy builds up over time and there is a sudden release, a “megathrust earthquake” can happen.
If a “megathrust earthquake” were to occur along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, the massive amount of energy that would be released would suddenly displace an enormous amount of water.
We are talking about an extremely tall wall of water that stretches for miles in all directions, and it would be traveling so fast that nobody could possibly outrun it.
I can’t even imagine what such a tsunami would look like.
What would you do if a monster tsunami that was dozens of feet tall was coming at you at a speed of 500 miles an hour?
Scientists assure us that it will happen someday.
And the clock is ticking.
Meanwhile, the Philippines was just hit by yet another gigantic typhoon…
At least two people have died and millions of others have evacuated as Super Typhoon Fung-wong ravages the Philippines.
While the typhoon — known locally as Uwan — is the 21st storm to hit the Southeast Asian archipelago this year, it is by far the biggest with an approximately 994-mile wide rain and wind band that could cover two-thirds of the nation, according to The Independent.
As the violent storm threatens the country’s northeastern coast, millions of people have evacuated from villages at risk of flash floods, landslides, and tidal surges.
In 2025, that country has been hammered again and again and again by giant storms.
Here in the United States, on average we have been getting hit by a “billion dollar disaster” about every two weeks for almost three years now.
The “experts” keep assuring us that conditions will return to “normal” eventually.
You can believe that if you want.
But the ground under our feet just continues to rumble, weather patterns just continue to become more unstable, and the Sun just continues to behave in wild and unpredictable ways.
