Most people have never knowingly used a Palantir product, and most people are nonetheless somewhere inside one. The Company’s Position, and Where the Dispute Sits

Palantir’s public response to criticism has been consistent and should be stated fairly. The company maintains that it sells software rather than data, that clients retain ownership and control of their own records, that its platforms include granular access controls and audit logging which make misuse more traceable rather than less, and that it has declined certain business on principle. Leadership has openly defended working with Western defense and intelligence agencies as a deliberate choice rather than a compromise.

Civil liberties organizations including the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation counter that audit logs do not constrain lawful but objectionable uses, and that building highly effective search and correlation tools for enforcement agencies expands state capability regardless of the safeguards attached. That is the genuine disagreement, and it is not resolved by either side’s talking points. The film argues the critics’ case and does not give equal time to the company, which viewers should factor in.
