In 2018 he purchased the Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune, adding media ownership to an already unusual portfolio. The argument about how cancer is treated

Where shifts in cancer diagnoses have been observed since 2020, the explanation most widely supported is disrupted screening. Routine mammography, colonoscopy and other detection programs were suspended or curtailed during the pandemic, which delays diagnosis and means cancers are more likely to be found at a later and more advanced stage. That mechanism accounts for later stage presentation without requiring any new cause.
