Few phrases carry as much freight as new world order. This New World Order documentary, presented by a forensic geologist who approaches the subject the way he would approach a site investigation, follows the term backward through two and a half centuries to see where it came from and how it arrived in the mouths of American presidents. The film’s central claim is that a coherent thread runs from an eighteenth century Bavarian secret society to the institutions shaping global policy today, and that the thread was deliberately obscured.

What the film sets out to examine

The structure is investigative rather than polemical in form. The presenter treats the subject as a problem of evidence, asking what documents exist, who wrote them, what can be established and what has been inferred. He works forward from the founding of the Bavarian Illuminati in 1776 through the suppression of that order, the pamphlet wars that followed the French Revolution, the emergence of modern policy institutions in the twentieth century, and finally to the use of the phrase itself by George H. W. Bush around the time of the Gulf War.

Along the way the film addresses the harder end of the thesis, including allegations of planned global governance and deliberate population control. These are the claims that require the most scrutiny, and the film presents them as the serious accusations they are rather than as established fact.

The Bavarian Illuminati and what the record actually shows

The starting point is genuine history, which is part of why the subject has such durable appeal. The Order of the Illuminati was founded on the first of May, 1776, in Ingolstadt, by Adam Weishaupt, a professor of canon law. It was an Enlightenment project, secretive in structure and anticlerical in outlook, organized in degrees and aimed at placing its members in positions of influence within Bavarian society. It recruited from existing Masonic lodges. It kept records in cipher. None of that is disputed.

What happened next is also documented. Beginning in 1784 the Bavarian government issued a series of edicts banning secret societies, raided members’ homes, seized correspondence and published the captured material. Weishaupt fled. By the end of the decade the order had been dismantled as an operating organization.

The disagreement begins immediately after that. Within a decade, writers including Augustin Barruel and John Robison published works arguing that the Illuminati had survived underground and engineered the French Revolution. Those books were enormously influential and they are the actual origin of nearly every modern claim on the subject. Mainstream historians hold that the order was destroyed in the 1780s and that no continuous organizational existence can be demonstrated after that point. The film argues that absence of surviving records is what one would expect from a group that had just been raided, which is a reasonable observation but not, on its own, evidence of continuation.

How the phrase entered public language

The documentary’s more interesting stretch traces the phrase itself. New world order was not a term invented by conspiracy writers. It appears in Wilson era discussions of international organization, and H. G. Wells published a book under that exact title in 1940 advocating world government as a remedy for war. It circulated through decades of foreign policy writing as a description of a desired postwar settlement.

Then in a September 1990 address to Congress concerning the Gulf War, President George H. W. Bush used the phrase publicly and repeatedly, describing an emerging era of international cooperation following the collapse of Soviet power. For anyone already reading Barruel’s descendants, hearing a sitting president use those three words was electric. The film treats this moment as its hinge, and it is easy to see why.

The institutions, the claims and the counterargument

From there the film turns to bodies that genuinely exist and genuinely convene in private. The Council on Foreign Relations, founded in 1921, the Bilderberg Meetings, first held in 1954, and the Trilateral Commission, founded in 1973, all bring together senior figures from government, finance, industry and media under conditions of limited disclosure. Their membership rosters and their existence are matters of public record. The film argues that this constitutes a coordinated structure of unelected global governance.

The mainstream counterposition deserves stating plainly. These organizations are generally understood as influential policy forums where elites exchange views, not as a governing body issuing instructions. Their participants frequently disagree with one another in public and pursue contradictory national interests. Bush’s usage of the phrase is read by historians as a description of post Cold War multilateralism rather than a coded announcement. And the population control allegations rest on a chain of inference rather than on documentary evidence of the kind the film applies so carefully to the 1780s.

Why it is worth watching

Watch this New World Order documentary for the first half above all, where the historical work is strongest and where a genuinely fascinating episode of European history gets a serious hearing. The Bavarian Illuminati really existed, really was suppressed by state power, and really did generate a body of literature that has shaped Western political suspicion ever since. That story alone is worth knowing properly.

Watch the second half with the evidentiary standard the presenter himself establishes early on. The useful question is not whether powerful people meet privately, because they demonstrably do. It is whether private meetings among people with divergent interests amount to a directed plan, and what evidence would settle that question either way.
