I’m sure we can all agree that these past few months have been a total roller coaster ride. So many ups and downs that we’re all going through as a collective, and also as individuals. One major thing I’ve noticed in my own life is the amount of shadow work that needs to be done. This is a time period where our shadows are coming up to be seen and acknowledged, they are asking to be cleared out. If you’re not familiar with the term ‘shadow work’, it is a process of reflecting on the not so pretty parts of ourselves. Each and every human being has a dark side to them, even if we don’t like to admit it..and you can’t just run away from your shadow side. These dark parts of us need to be faced in order for us to heal and find the light. If we just focus on the positive parts of life- the parts that feel happy, light and easy – life will eventually feel very one-sided. This life is a multifaceted experience and we are multifaceted humans which means that we have to experience all angles in order to learn lessons and evolve. When we bury our shadows, we aren’t living life FULLY and we’re only hurting ourselves by staying in the same place.
The pain and suffering we are currently witnessing in the world around us is often mirrored by our internal pain and suffering. It’s simply a reflection of the chaos that is happening within us. This is a hard concept to understand because our egos are tricky. Our egos want to protect us, so it kicks in and keeps us from clearly understanding reality. When we can cultivate self awareness, we become more in touch with our inner world and that helps us understand our internal wounds and how they’re being reflected back to us through other people and situations. What are some triggers and wounds that have come up for you during this time of introspection? What is being mirrored back to you? What are some things that you’ve learned about yourself?
As much as we all wish 2020 wasn’t so aggressive, this year has been a complete blessing. In order for humanity to progress, collective shadows have to be revealed. And in order for us to evolve as individuals, we have to be willing to face these hard moments that life throws at us. The Universe doesn’t punish us; it blesses us with the lessons we need to learn and the knowledge we need to acquire. These hardships are happening for our highest good. Use this time to reflect and heal the wounds that are asking for attention. By healing yourself, you are healing humanity.
